DENVER, CO -- In a strategic move during Day 3 of the NFL draft, the Denver Broncos orchestrated a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to select Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin. The Broncos moved up from the 121st overall pick to the 102nd pick, giving up a fifth-round pick (No. 136) and a sixth-round pick (No. 207) while receiving a seventh-round pick (No. 235) in return.
The acquisition of Troy Franklin brings a valuable asset to the Broncos' offense, especially following the trade of Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns. Known for his exceptional speed, Franklin impressed scouts with a remarkable 4.41 time in the 40-yard dash during the scouting combine. He is expected to pose a significant threat to opposing defenses, particularly in the intermediate and deep parts of the field.
During his tenure at Oregon, Franklin had a standout season, setting single-season records in receiving yards (1,383), receiving touchdowns (14), and 100-yard receiving games (eight). His impressive performance on the field caught the attention of NFL teams, including the Broncos.
Troy Franklin's arrival in Denver also reunites him with Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. The two athletes previously played together for two seasons in college, establishing a strong connection on the field. Nix, who was selected as the sixth quarterback off the board in the first round by the Broncos, joins a competitive quarterback room that also includes Zach Wilson, acquired in a trade, and Jarrett Stidham, who started the final two games of the 2023 season after Russell Wilson was benched.
While the team has not officially announced the starting quarterback for the upcoming season, Coach Sean Payton emphasized the importance of maximizing practice reps and allowing the situation to unfold naturally.
The addition of Troy Franklin provides the Denver Broncos with a promising young talent who can contribute immediately to their offensive arsenal. Franklin's speed, coupled with his exceptional abilities as a receiver, brings excitement to the team and fans alike. As the Broncos continue to build a competitive roster, this trade signifies their commitment to strengthening their offense and supporting their quarterbacks in the pursuit of success.
The Denver Broncos have made a calculated move in securing Troy Franklin, setting the stage for an intriguing season ahead. With an upgraded receiving corps and a talented quarterback room, the Broncos are positioning themselves for a dynamic and compelling campaign in the NFL.
