LAS VEGAS, NV -- Former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones has pleaded no contest to a domestic violence charge, court documents reveal. The plea comes with a suspended 90-day jail sentence, contingent upon meeting certain conditions.
Conditional Sentence and Dismissal of Charges
According to court records, Jones will avoid jail time if he complies with specific requirements. The charge against him will be dismissed if he remains out of trouble for the next six months and refrains from any contact with the victim, except as mandated by Family Court orders.
Background and Arrests
Jones was initially arrested in September in Las Vegas for violating a domestic violence temporary protective order. He faced another arrest in October for further violation of the protective order. As a result, one of the two misdemeanor charges against Jones was dropped when he entered his plea.
Release from the Raiders
Following his arrest in September, the Las Vegas Raiders decided to release Jones. At the time, he was in the second season of a three-year, $51 million contract with the team. The defensive end had been absent from the Raiders since Labor Day weekend and had taken to social media to target the organization, owner Mark Davis, general manager Dave Ziegler, and coach Josh McDaniels.
Non-Football Injury/Illness List
On September 20, the Raiders placed Jones on the non-football injury/illness list, effectively sidelining him for the remainder of the season. Consequently, Jones did not participate in any games during the 2022 NFL season due to his legal troubles.
Jones' Career Achievements
Throughout his career spanning 11 seasons, Chandler Jones has garnered recognition for his outstanding performance. The defensive end has received four Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro nods. Notably, he has accumulated an impressive total of 112 sacks.

With his legal proceedings resolved, Chandler Jones will now have the opportunity to refocus on his personal and professional life. The former Las Vegas Raiders player will need to adhere to the conditions set forth by the court to avoid serving the suspended jail sentence and ultimately dismiss the domestic violence charge against him.
It remains to be seen whether Jones will seek a return to the NFL following his release from the Raiders and subsequent absence from the league during the 2022 season.
