Titans sign free agent safety Jamal Adams, bolstering their secondary.
NASHVILLE, TN -- In a move that adds significant firepower to their secondary, the Tennessee Titans have signed free agent safety Jamal Adams. The seven-year veteran previously played for the Seattle Seahawks before being released on March 5.
With the signing of Adams, the Titans aim to bolster their defensive backfield and elevate their overall defensive performance. Currently, the team has Amani Hooker and Elijah Molden listed as their starting safeties, but Adams will undoubtedly compete for one of the starting spots once training camp opens.
The Seattle Seahawks acquired Adams from the New York Jets in 2020, trading two first-round picks to secure his services. Following the trade, Adams was rewarded with a lucrative four-year, $70 million extension, making him the highest-paid safety in the NFL at the time.
During his debut season with the Seahawks, Adams showcased his exceptional skills on the field. He earned his third consecutive Pro Bowl selection and set a remarkable record for defensive backs by recording 9.5 sacks. However, since then, Adams has not registered a sack.
Adams endured a significant setback in the 2022 season opener when he suffered a torn quadriceps tendon above his left knee. This injury forced him to miss the first three games of the 2023 season and had a lingering impact on his performance throughout the year.
In his four years with the Seahawks, Adams missed a total of 33 out of 67 regular-season games due to various injuries. Despite the setbacks, he managed to accumulate impressive statistics, including 9.5 sacks, 19 quarterback hits, 22 tackles for loss, 11 passes defended, and 2 interceptions.
Adams' time with the New York Jets saw him earn two Pro Bowl selections (2018, 2019) and a first-team All-Pro nod in 2019 while being coached by Dennard Wilson, who currently serves as the defensive coordinator for the Titans. The existing rapport between Adams and Wilson could prove beneficial to the Titans' defensive schemes.
ESPN's Brady Henderson commented on the signing, stating, "[No specific quote mentioned in the article]."
With the addition of Jamal Adams, the Tennessee Titans aim to solidify their defense and create a formidable secondary unit. Titans fans eagerly anticipate witnessing Adams' impact on the field and his contributions to the team's pursuit of success in the upcoming season.
