Jalen Hurts is Still a Top-5 QB
Losing AJ Brown hurts. But the draft helped more than you think.
Yes, Jalen Hurts is losing AJ Brown after June 1st. That's a real loss. But the Eagles' NFL Draft haul was actually strong for Hurts and the offense.
Philly added WR Makai Lemon at pick 20. Lemon is a clean route runner who won the Biletnikoff Award with 1,156 yards and 11 TDs. He walks straight into the WR2 role next to DeVonta Smith.
They also added TE Eli Stowers early in the draft. Stowers set a new TE vertical record at the combine and won the Mackey Award. He fits perfectly into Sean Mannion's TE-heavy offense.
And they added tackle Markel Bell to protect Hurts's blind side.
Beyond the draft, the Eagles brought in Dontayvion Wicks and Marquise Brown via free agency and trades. The WR room has more depth than people realize.
Here's why Hurts is still a top-5 QB:
The rushing floor. Hurts's legs are a weekly cheat code for fantasy points. He's a lock for 30+ rushing yards most weeks with consistent goal-line work. That alone puts his floor above most QBs.
The offensive line is still elite. The coaching staff is still elite. The defense is still elite, which means positive game scripts and sustained drives.
Losing Brown hurts his ceiling. But his floor was always built on the ground game and red-zone work. That hasn't changed.
He's being drafted as QB7-8 right now. That's value for a player who's finished top-5 in two of the last three seasons.
